This Winchester Repeating Arms Co. manufactured two piece, split top, cardboard box with green top label, red side sealing band, and buff bottom label contains 8 of the original 50 rounds of 22 Long ammunition with copper cases and is in good to very good condition with splits running up both back corners of the box cover, light wear, and soiling. The upper, left corner of the top label is torn off and the side sealing band is missing pieces of the bottom half, likely torn off when the box was opened. The top label displays No. 22 with the tall "N" and "STETSON'S / PATENT / OCT. 24.1871". The 0.75" wide red side sealing band lists a patent that has been applied for with the company name on the front and states "22 LONG 1/2 / TARGET CARTRIDGES." on the back. Both ends state "22 / LONG. 1/2". The bottom label displays a 5 line disclaimer ending with two words on the last line and the company name printed in red. The copper casings display the "H-10" headstamp and moderate tarnishing.

Date of Manufacture: This style box was introduced in circa 1890 and was produced until circa 1906.

This box is cataloged in Richard Rains's book Winchester Two-Piece .22 Boxes 1873 To 1927 as WRA-46 L-7(c). This box displays a 0.75" wide side sealing band with side styles 1 and 2 and end style 2 on both ends. The bottom of the box features the #1 style disclaimer label without the handwritten note.
